Abstract

The integration of technology in English language teaching has transformed writing pedagogy by
providing innovative learning opportunities for students from diverse educational and socio-cultural
backgrounds. This study investigates the effectiveness of technology-assisted writing pedagogy through the
use of English writing skill training devices among engineering students from rural and urban backgrounds.
The research focuses on evaluating how digital tools such as multimedia applications, AI-supported writing
platforms, language learning software, and online collaborative writing environments contribute to the
development of writing proficiency. A mixed-method research design involving pre-test and post-test
assessments, classroom observations, and learner feedback was employed among undergraduate engineering
students. The findings reveal that technology-assisted instruction significantly improves students’ grammar,
vocabulary usage, coherence, creativity, and overall academic writing performance. The study further
highlights that rural learners, despite initial limitations in digital exposure and language confidence,
demonstrated remarkable improvement when provided with structured technological support. Urban learners
also benefited through enhanced engagement and independent learning practices. The research emphasizes the
importance of inclusive and technology-driven pedagical strategies in bridging educational disparities and
promoting effective English writing instruction in engineering education. The study offers valuable
implications for curriculum designers, educators, and policy makers in developing learner-centered digital
writing environments.
