Abstract

The methodology of teaching English as a foreign language has become an important area of modern
educational research due to the growing role of English as an international language of communication.
In the context of globalization, English is widely used in science, technology, business, diplomacy, and
higher education, which increases the demand for effective methods of language teaching. The main
objective of English language teaching methodology is to develop learners’ communicative competence,
enabling them to use the language effectively in real-life situations. Modern pedagogical approaches
emphasize the integration of linguistic knowledge, practical communication skills, critical thinking, and
intercultural awareness in the language learning process. This study examines the theoretical and practical
foundations of modern English language teaching methodology. Particular attention is given to the
development of communicative
competence, learner-centered instruction, task-based learning, and the integration of technology in
language education. The research also analyzes the importance of developing the four fundamental
language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—in an integrated and balanced manner.
Modern methodological approaches encourage active participation of learners in the educational process
and promote collaborative learning, interactive classroom activities, and the use of authentic materials.
The article highlights the role of innovative teaching strategies that contribute to the effectiveness of
English language instruction. These strategies include communicative language teaching, project-based
learning, blended learning environments, and the use of digital technologies in the classroom.
Technological tools such as online platforms, multimedia resources, and virtual communication
environments allow learners to access authentic language input and practice communication skills beyond
traditional classroom settings. Another important aspect discussed in this study is the development of
vocabulary competence, grammatical awareness, and pronunciation skills as essential components of
language proficiency. Modern language teaching methodology emphasizes contextualized grammar
instruction, lexical development through meaningful communication, and the use of phonetic training to
improve pronunciation and listening comprehension. The study also examines the role of motivation,
psychological factors, and learner autonomy in successful language acquisition. Creating a supportive and
interactive learning environment helps students overcome language anxiety and develop confidence in
using English. In addition, the article addresses the importance of continuous assessment, reflective
learning practices, and teacher professional development as key factors contributing to the improvement
of language education. Furthermore, the research explores the significance of intercultural competence in
English language teaching. Since English functions as a global lingua franca, learners must develop the
ability to communicate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Incorporating cultural elements
into
language instruction enhances learners’ understanding of global perspectives and prepares them for
effective participation in international academic and professional communities. The findings of this study
demonstrate that modern English language teaching methodology requires a comprehensive approach that
combines communicative principles, learner-centered strategies, technological innovations, and research-
based practices. Such an approach contributes to the development of well-rounded language competence
and prepares students for successful communication in the globalized world. The study concludes that
continuous improvement of teaching methodology, integration of new technologies, and professional
development of educators are essential for enhancing the quality of English language education.
