Digital Pedagogy and ICT Competency: Insights from Bharathiar University Affiliated College

Abstract

The continuous growth of digital technologies has brought substantial changes to the teaching and
learning environment in higher education institutions. The integration of digital pedagogy through
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays a vital role in improving teaching
effectiveness and increasing student engagement. This study focuses on assessing the level of digital
pedagogical practices and ICT competency among faculty members working in colleges affiliated with
Bharathiar University. It further examines the nature and extent of ICT usage in instructional delivery,
learning processes, and academic administrative activities, along with the challenges encountered by
faculty while adopting digital tools. A descriptive research approach is employed, and primary data are
collected using a structured questionnaire administered to faculty members from selected affiliated
colleges. The collected data are analyzed using statistical techniques such as percentage analysis, mean
values, and selected inferential methods. The results indicate that faculty members possess adequate
awareness and fundamental ICT skills; however, the application of advanced digital teaching methods
and innovative technology-based practices remains comparatively low. Key obstacles identified
include insufficient training opportunities, limited technological infrastructure, and workload-related
time constraints. The study emphasizes the importance of ongoing faculty development programs,
strong institutional support, and effective policy measures to enhance ICT competency. Improving
digital infrastructure and encouraging innovative teaching practices can contribute significantly to
strengthening the quality of higher education. The findings of this study are expected to support
academic decision-making, faculty training initiatives, and the successful integration of digital
pedagogy in Bharathiar University affiliated colleges.
